Hit the wall in Tower of Fantasy after clearing basically everything plus we kind of know the writing is on the wall and it’s coming toward EOL, right?
Need something new, but honestly tired of getting burned, tried Genshin and Tarisland already. Same cash grab stuff just packaged different. Genshin was okay for like 2 weeks, then the grind hit. Tarisland, I uninstalled after 3 days lol, anyone playing something that doesn’t need you to log in every 4 hours? Or where you can actually progress without dropping hundreds?
I love the combat style and multiplayer stuff from Tower of Fantasy.
Just Gacha

ToF gets more hate than it deserves imo. Went in expecting nothing after all the negativity, but I played through to Domain 9 and had a good time. Even made an alt to replay the story content. If you’re on the fence, maybe try it with fresh eyes. The community perception can be way off sometimes, especially for casual players.
Wuthering Waves might work if you want that open world action combat but it is single player. Noah’s Heart has the anime MMO thing with real-time battles but idk if people still play it. There’s probably others I’m not thinking of.
Yeah Wuthering Waves is decent if you want that open world feel. I like that you can actually grind echoes without getting blocked by time gates like in ToF. But man, there’s hardly any open world gachas to choose from. It’s the same few games with different skins at this point. Just hoping something comes out that doesn’t punish you for wanting to play more than an hour a day.
TOF is pretty unique as an open world MMO gacha hybrid. Most alternatives like Wuthering Waves are more like Genshin without the multiplayer focus.
There aren’t many games doing this MMO-gacha blend that really work in the same way Tower of Fantasy did.. but the same studio is making something new. Whether I would trust it or not is another thing.
OP really said they’re tired of cash grabs then asks for gacha recommendations lmao. that’s like saying you hate water but want to go swimming
But fr, try Snowbreak Containment Zone. It’s basically ToF’s gunplay without the fantasy stuff, and the devs actually listen to feedback which is rare these days
The reality is, we keep going back to the same games. Genshin for open world solo content, Tof for multiplayer MMO elements, or something like PGR for straight action combat. Other games either copy these formulas directly or try mixing features without really understanding what makes each one work. They end up missing what makes Tof unique, that specific blend of MMO and Gacha in an open world. Personally, I just rotate through all three depending on my mood. When one starts feeling like a chore, i move to the next. Haven’t found anything that properly fills that niche yet.
The devs caused a lot of drama around the hardcore gacha community but I don’t know how much it really affected the people who just find it on the app store or through an advert.
The game isn’t dead just because it doesn’t hit $20,000,000 a week in revenue. The playerbase is there, events are still happening and there’s content to do.
It’s not dead… but it’s not hugely popping off either.
Switching between traditional MMOs and pure gacha games made me notice how ToF went for a specific mix. MMOs usually keep characters generic, and gachas often have multiplayer that feels tacked on. If youre chasing the open world exploration, look for that. If you want real co-op, look for that instead. Hard to recommend anything until you say which part of ToF you miss.
From my time with them, they dont feel that similar. Wuthering Waves sticks close to the Genshin formula. Tower of Fantasy is closer to an open-world MMO that happens to have gacha. Blue Protocol shutting down was a bummer. I’d like to see more studios match ToF’s generosity with pulls and resources. Monetization across the genre still feels rough.
Check out Crystal of Atlan. Same kind of open-world MMO gacha as ToF with similar mechanics. It’s a gacha game with MMO elements and PvP, but you’re not forced to play with other people or do PvP
Day one player here, been in a bunch of different guilds across these games. Most of them have terrible crew systems, except maybe ToF. Like, I joined a guild in WuWa and the chat was completely dead. Nobody talks. PGR doesn’t even bother with guilds at all. Genshin has that teapot visiting thing but calling that a social feature is a stretch.
The only place I’ve found that MMO guild feeling with active voice chat during bosses is PSO2:NG. Otherwise you’re waiting on Blue Protocol’s global launch, assuming it ever happens.
